Life is large in Bangkok. And by that I mean it is particularly important for locals. Joy and constant level of happiness make it large, tasty bits and eating all day make it large, light and eternal sunshine, faith and two thousand years old religion. All billions of tiny pieces and how they become a whole system. So many things to see so many many things to do in this sizzling metropolis you literally have no idea what to start with.
The ultimate must-see place is called the Khao San Road. It’s genuine pure chaos. Start with getting diarrhea drinking orange juice of dubious origin from a plastic bag then get hold of a throwing star right after you got dreadlocks in your hair and find yourself robbed later by a wonderful woman who in the morning irreversibly transforms into a boy. Well, it’s not what everyone does but some can’t resist and end up broke.
Khao San Road is the sacred place for backpackers as there are dozens of hostels, bars, restaurants and even travel agencies and this diverse liberal area in the heart of the capital is at least once should really be visited. But only – and I am being very serious now – only during daytime. I arrived there at 4 AM. I’ve always had real trouble imagining what hell may look like but after seeing that road then I suddenly had an accurate vision of it.
Luckily, my manner won’t allow to tell what I saw but I must be honest it was positively infernal. During daytime on the other hand Khao San Road is the aforementioned lovely vibrant place that welcomes globetrekkers from all around the world with equally shared hospitality. After the first astonishment you become more familiar with the ambience and in an hour you do what all the others do around you: smile and enjoy life.
